God has created me to do Him some definite service.

The Newman Student Organization met on September 19 and over a delicious taco dinner, I had the opportunity to share my story of how I came to be the Catholic Campus Minister in Keene.  For those of you who missed it (or even if you were there, but would like to know more of my story) , I was interviewed last year for the Among Women Podcast.  You can listen to is here.

We also briefly discussed the beatification of John Henry Newman.  This will definitely be a topic to come back to, since many of our students don’t know who Card. John Henry Newman is or why our campus ministry is called the Newman Center.   We will also start a regular feature on this blog to post some quotes and information about our the newly beatified Cardinal Newman.

Student Involvement Fair

On Wednesday, Sept. 15,  we had the Student Involvement Fair on campus. Even though we didn’t have the best spot, we did get talk to quite a few students, handed out brochures and invited folks to upcoming activities.

Next Sunday we are having Supper with a “Guest.” Normally, the guest would be someone from outside the Newman Center, but, since most of the new students don’t know Marika, our Campus Minister and she realized that she never really told her story to students who have been coming for years, Marika will be the “guest” and share her journey from growing up in Holland, to moving to the States and studying Architecture to becoming the Director of the Newman Center right here, in Keene.

NSO Cookout

students around a picnic tableOn Sunday Sept. 12, the Newman Center hosted a little cookout. It was a nice casual affair, some burgers, some hotdogs, a little potato salad and students chatting and sharing ideas. They got a preview of the buttons that we will be handing out at the Student Activities Fair. We are slowly gearing up to a regular schedule.
