A year ago, we learned about the realities of modern-day slavery and human trafficking from Dr. Boaz Johnson, the self-proclaimed “Slumdog Professor” who grew up in the slums of New Delhi. We dedicated ourselves to “Be the change” we want to see in the world by standing up for social justice and removing ourselves from the supply chains that promote the chains of modern-day slavery.
Now, we continue that mission through our Social Justice Resources page and commitment to raising awareness about Catholic Social Teaching. In a week, I invite you to participate in END IT: Shine a Light on Slavery, a joint-coalition project including WorldVision, International Justice Mission, Made in a Free World, The Polaris Project and more to raise awareness and funds for fighting modern-day slavery. Here’s what you can do:
- on Thursday, February 27th, draw a red “X” on your hand to raise awareness about modern-day slavery. You can take a picture of it and upload it to your favorite social media site with the hashtag #enditmovement to make freedom go viral! And when others ask what it’s for, give them some facts about modern-day slavery.
- Check out the Coalition Partners of the End It Movement, which include many of the organizations Dr. Johnson supports in his abolitionist work. Donating to them directly helps modern-day slaves escape into freedom.
- Check out our Social Justice Resources, especially the consumer-based ones on ways to separate yourself from supply chains that support modern-day slavery.
